In general, choosing the right crucible can help ensure better results. The type of crucible used for measurement can have a significant impact on the quality of the results obtained and on the important characteristics of the TGA and DSC signals. Do you know what are the precautions when using it?

1. The melting point of the platinum crucible is 1773.5°C. The maximum temperature should not exceed 1200°C. The crucible should not be heated directly on an open flame.

2. Do not use too much force when using the crucible to avoid deformation or denting of the crucible, and do not use the tip of the glass rod to remove the material inside the crucible.

3. Do not heat or melt alkali metal oxides, hydroxides, barium oxide, sodium thiosulfate, phosphorus, and substances containing large amounts of sulfur in the platinum crucible; alkali metal nitrates, nitrites, oxides, chlorides, cyanides, etc. form brittle platinum phosphide and platinum sulfide at high temperatures and can erode platinum.

4. Contain heavy metals, such as lead, bismuth, tin, arsenic, silver, mercury, copper, and other samples, compounds can not be burned and heated in the platinum crucible.

5. High-temperature heating must not be in contact with any other metals (iron plates, electric furnaces, etc.), and care must be taken not to touch the electric couples when putting them into the high-temperature furnace.

6. Do not deal with halogens such as aqua regia, bromine, and hydrochloric acid and oxidizers (chlorate, nitrate, permanganate, manganese dioxide, chromate, nitrite) in the platinum crucible, ferric chloride has a significant erosive effect on platinum, so do not contact ferric chloride.

7. Do not heat or dissolve substances of unknown composition in the platinum crucible.

8.The platinum crucible must be kept clean and shiny inside and outside. After a long burn, the exterior of the platinum crucible may be dull and shiny, which will penetrate deep into the interior and cause the crucible to be fragile and broken.
